Recent Changes to Minimum Wage Rates

Alberta's minimum wage rate increased to $9.75/hour on September 1, 2012 and Manitoba's increased to $10.25/hour on October 1, 2012.

British Columbia’s New Family Day Statutory Holiday

Family Day will be added as an additional statutory holiday in British Columbia effective in February 2013. It will be held on the second Monday of February.

AODA Reporting Deadline December 31, 2012

Although the deadline for compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 Customer Service Standard was January 1, 2012, businesses with 20 or more employees have until December 31, 2012 to submit their progress report online to the government. If you have still not yet developed a policy or trained your employees on how to provide excellent customer service to your Ontario customers with disabilities, our blog post has a refresher on how to become compliant.

Our associate consultant, Josie Martiniello, recently spoke at OARTY's (Ontario Association of Residences Treating Youth) General Meeting on October 25, 2012 on Human Resources in the Age of Social Media. Her presentation was very well received. It was HR à la carte's second year of presenting at OARTY's general meeting. Last year's presentation was on Employee Engagement and its Impact on Retention.

We attended the HR Summit Impact99 “Igniting a Social Workplace” in Mississauga, Ontario on October 24, 2012. We met some amazing thought leaders in both business and HR and will share some of the highlights that we think will help your business in our December newsletter.
