The Conference Board of Canada, in partnership with the government of Ontario, has released a new FREE resource to help employers make their workplaces more inclusive.  The Employers Toolkit: Making Ontario Workplaces Accessible to People with Disabilities is intended to help employers to understand and implement the employment standard related to the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).

Ontario new public space accessibility standards

As part of Ontario's Accessibility for Ontario's with Disabilities Act (AODA), the new Design of Public Spaces Standards (Accessibility Standards for the Built Environment) are effective for Ontario businesses as follows:

  • Government of Ontario and Legislative Assembly: January 1, 2015
  • Designated public sector organizations: January 1, 2016
  • Large organizations (those with 50 or more employees): January 1, 2017
  • Small organizations (where applicable): January 1, 2018

The goal of the new standards is to remove barriers in public spaces.
