Ontario new public space accessibility standards
As part of Ontario's Accessibility for Ontario's with Disabilities Act (AODA), the new Design of Public Spaces Standards (Accessibility Standards for the Built Environment) are effective for Ontario businesses as follows:
- Government of Ontario and Legislative Assembly: January 1, 2015
- Designated public sector organizations: January 1, 2016
- Large organizations (those with 50 or more employees): January 1, 2017
- Small organizations (where applicable): January 1, 2018
The goal of the new standards is to remove barriers in public spaces.
