HR News of the Day

New National Standard on Psychological Health & Safety in the Workplace launched on January 16, 2013.

Did you know?*

  • Nearly 30% of short- and long-term disability claims in Canadian workplaces are related to mental health problems and illnesses?  In some other employment sectors, that number is closer to 50%.

  • 1 in 5 Canadians will experience a mental health problem or illness.

  • Left unchecked, mental illness will cost Canadian businesses nearly $200 billion over the next 30 years.

*Mental Health Commission of Canada

The new voluntary standard aims to break down the stigma of mental health in the workplace.  For more information read the HR Reporter article.  A copy of the standard can be downloaded for free from the CSA website.
